Equipment
- Oven
- Large skillet
- Baking sheet
- Cutting board
- Chef’s knife
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
Ingredients
- Cornmeal for dusting
- All-purpose flour for dusting
- 1 lb refrigerated pizza dough at room temperature
- 8 oz lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 oz extra-sharp Cheddar coarsely grated (about 1/2 cup)
- 1 head butter lettuce torn
- 1/2 pint cherry tomatoes quartered
- 1/2 small red onion thinly sliced
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- Kosher salt and black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Dust a baking sheet with cornmeal. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the pizza dough into a 14- to 16-inch oval. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the barbecue sauce.
- Spoon the beef mixture over the prepared dough and sprinkle evenly with grated Cheddar.
- Bake until the crust is golden brown and crisp, 20 to 25 minutes.
- While pizza bakes, toss together the lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and red onion with olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a large bowl.
- Top the baked pizza with the salad mixture. Slice and serve immediately.
Notes
- Customize the salad with your favorite burger toppings—try pickles, relish, or roasted mushrooms.
- Let the dough sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to stretch.
- Use a pizza stone for an even crispier crust if available.
- This pizza is best served fresh—the salad topping keeps it light and crunchy.
- Swap barbecue sauce for ketchup-mayo for a more classic burger flavor twist.
